Excellent Starter Chart for Young Jazz Ensembles
This Mike Steinel piece from the Essential Elements Jazz Ensemble series is perfect for my Grade 1-2 students. Its light rock style is engaging, and the clear layout by Hal Leonard makes it easy for them to follow. It's a fantastic tool for introducing major scale based improvisation, helping young musicians develop vital ensemble and soloing skills quickly. Highly recommended for beginning bands!

Solid, Accessible Chart for Developing Bands
For a gig with a developing ensemble, 'Sunday Afternoon' is a reliable choice. As a Grade 1-2 chart, it's straightforward and well-arranged, ensuring a good sound without excessive rehearsal. Fun and Achievable Jazz for Weekend Players!
I absolutely love playing this Mike Steinel piece! As an adult learner, I appreciate that it's a Beginning/Grade 1-2 level, making it very achievable for my weekend practice. The light rock jazz style is enjoyable and helps our community band sound great pretty fast. It’s also a good way to dip my toes into improvisation without feeling overwhelmed. A really satisfying piece!
