About The Music Tree
The Music Tree series continues the development of complete musicianship by providing the beginner with delightful and varied repertoire. The pupil learns a variety of idioms encompassing folk, jazz and pop. The creativity of the students is emphasized since they are given musical segments to rearrange, transpose, complete or to use as the basis for a new composition. Technical aspects are also addressed including greater facility, blocked intervals and chords, and more hands together playing. Guided training steps are used to encourage intelligent practice skills.

The Music Tree-Time to Begin, Primer
I have been teaching from the Music Tree Series for 30 plus years. It used to be called the Look and Listen Series which I learned from as a kid. I love how a student (all ages) progresses with this series and what great sight players that they become. They are comfortable moving octaves and playing all over the piano from the first book, onward. Interval teaching is the way to go and not just hand positions. No guessing necessary. I hope and pray that this series never goes out of print. Please bring back the colored printing in the Activities Book.

The only choice
I have taught kids piano for years and each time I get someone who started with Alfred or Bastien I give it my best to try to continue but every time I come back to the Music Tree. If you want a kid who can read music easily, you need this book! The red, blue, and green books are also indispensible.

Simply the Best
As a studio teacher and concert pianist, I am keen on exploring the best possible state-of-the-art pedagogy methods for my teachings. So far, the Music Tree Series, especially their Time to Begin Primer, has been my staple for ten years and is going to be till I find another more convincing and sound method as a replacement. Salute to Frances Clark! This classic intervallic approach deserves to be more well-known. Moreover, it get rid of many pianist technical problem with ease, right from the start. That's said, it is also true that more workshops are needed to educate teachers HOW to use this book properly.

Music Tree Primer
This was the book I began with eons ago. Attractive to children, with a pace that gives them a sense of accomplishment and a logical evolution of very basic piano playing. NOT all in the key of C, thank you very much!

Excellent Methos
I have taught Bastien, Faber and Alfred. This method has always been my favorite. Kids can play up and down the keyboard from the first lesson. That beats middle-c approach every time.

Music Tree - Time to Begin, Primer
I have used this method to introduce music reading since the 1960s when Frances Clark was still presenting demonstrations at Conventions. It has given a basic foundation, and quite predictably good results for my students over the years. I know there are off-shoots of her ground-breaking work and I have tried them. They are very good but, in my opinion, The Music Tree still is the most fool-proof and thorough. I usually take students through the other levels while supplementing with a lot of other materials. Thank you, Frances Clark!
