An outstanding compilation of piano etudes and exercises from the ever-popular Bürgmuller's 25 Progressive Pieces, Opus 100, Czerny's Practical Method for Beginners on the Piano, Opus 599, and Hanon's The Virtuoso Pianist. Etudes are organized into four units according to difficulty and emphasize different aspects of technique and musicianship. Hanon exercises are included within each unit to reinforce the need for finger strength, independence and agility. Information about each composer's life, music and books is also provided.

Most of us have probably had at least one very dry technique book over the years. But it need not be! This book is so rich, incorporating Czerny's enjoyable studies with Hanon's finger drills and Burgmller treasures. I highly recommend this well-chosen book of piano studies!

My teacher used this collection 50 years ago with me and now I use it with my piano students. It's a wonderful collection with great variety and teaches amazing skills with dynamics, musicality, articulation, etc.

After I take kids through Bastien 3rd or 4th Level I move them to this book which is absolutely perfect beginning that 'intermediate' stage of piano. The legitimate repertoire from Burgmuller, the continued technic from Hanon and Czerny in ONE BOOK that kids can play out of for a year or two. Along with a Sonatina to really develop their musicianship over a semester, some pop music for fun - this is the BEST way to transition kids out of method books systematically and purposefully. There are both quickly accessible and challenging songs so that kids are both encouraged and pushed to grow. LOVE IT SO MUCH

I find this book to be the best starter for students that have raised their level between 3 and 4. It introduces the classics, meter and control of fingers.

I bought this book because every song contains important textual information on how to study and play it. Iit was worth it!

Excellent narrative introduction to each etude. Explains the importance of each etude. A parent of one of my students commented: Mary is not getting much out of the etude group class. I want her to just do individual classes (which deal with repertoire only). This parent comment is the reason why I'm switching from Schirmer's Berens to Clarfield. Even though Shirmer's etudes have better darker larger print.
