Belisia is the old Merovingian name of the Belgian town of Bilzen who commissioned this composition. It is also the composer’s place of birth. The work has two main themes. The melancholic theme in a minor key refers to the many ravages the town hassuffered through the years and the second theme, stately and heroic, represents the inner strength and courage of the proud inhabitants of this town.
Belisia is de Merovingische naam voor het Belgische stadje Bilzen, die dit werk in opdracht heeft gegeven. De componist is bovendien in deze plaats geboren. The Beauty of Belisia omvat twee hoofdthema’s. Het melancholische thema in mineurverwijst naar de vele verwoestingen die de plaats door de jaren heen heeft doorstaan, en het tweede thema, dat statig en hero sch klinkt, staat symbool voor de innerlijke kracht en moed van de trotse inwoners.

Dieses Werk ist rund um zwei Themen aufgebaut: Das melancholische Thema in Moll bezieht sichauf die Zerstörungen, welche die Stadt immer wieder erleiden musste. Das zweite, heroische Thema verweist auf die innere Kraft und den Mut der stolzen Bewohner von Bilzen.
Alors que les Mérovingiens la baptisèrent « Belisia », elle devint plus tard Bilzen. The Beauty of Belisia est une commande de la ville de Bilzen (Belgique), la ville natale de Bert Appermont. Deux thèmes jalonnent l’œuvre : le premier,mélancolique, rappelle le préjudice subi par la ville lors des nombreux épisodes de destructions . le second, plus héro que, illustre la force intérieure et le courage des habitants de Bilzen.
I merovingi la chiamarono “Belisia”, in seguito divenne Bilzen (Limburg). The Beauty of Belisia è stato commissionato a Bert Appermont dalle autorit della sua citt natale, Bilzen per l’appunto. Il brano è caratterizzato da due temi: ilprimo, malinconico, ricorda che nel corso dei secoli la citt ha subito distruzioni importanti. Il secondo, più eroico, illustra la forza interiore e il coraggio degli abitanti di Bilzen.
