For Flute and Piano. General Reid (1721-1807) spent 20 years of his military career in North America. During that time he composed music, and later he established the music department at the University of Edinburgh. Because of his lengthy stay in Canada, many still consider him to be one of the earliest Canadian composers.

British Baroque for Flutes
General John Reid (1721-1807) was a British Army officer who played flute. His handsome portray has him in bright red British uniform with his flute in his hands, and to his left are two books of sheet music. He composed two books of Solos for Flute of which these solos come from the second book. These solos, along with those in their companion volume (PMD 27), are very pleasant Baroque sonatas. They have a Scottish and English Folk song qualities about them and are NOT grouping of constant sequencing, runs or arpeggios like some other 18th century composers. I thoroughly enjoy them. There is another collection of 3 solos from Bossey & Hawkes.
