Lovely collection
I have been playing for 70 years, and have just started collecting Maxwell Eckstein editions. As a sight-reader I welcome this eclectic collection which fits nicely on the music stand for occasional playing on our much appreciated acoustic piano.

Good Mixed Collection
This book is a good collection of classical works at a variety of levels. It probably is not the best volume for serious study for a couple of reasons:1. Not all works are in the original. Some works are simplified.2. The editing does not enable the reader to distinguish between the composer's markings and the editors additions. For the average pianists enjoyment, however, it is a great collection of pieces worth playing. The choice of works included favor the interests of older students, including teens. For serious study, I would recommend the Masterwork Classics series by Alfred Publications or the Literature series by Bastien.

Influential and Lasting
As a young player who was about ready to quit, 33 years ago, this book was the solution. It still motivates me today. Not only is it filled with memories, there are still new songs to challenge, and old ones to enjoy again & again. Still haven't learned them all....and yes, the book fell apart in about 5 years. I found that a good piece of tape did the job (paper, not duct--something flexible/soft). In fact, I find it good to break open a thick book like this so it doesn't close up on you. The editing is superb: practical fingering & strategic techniques, a great sense of dynamics, great introduction to proper pedalling as well as a powerful lesson in phrasing--all useful later for where the artist must make big decisions alone...when teachers are no longer there or you yourself are the teacher. Heavy & varied on classics & composers which are essential for music literacy.

This Book A Keeper
This book's a keeper for all pianists, whether or not you're an adult student. I took lessons for years but find the fingerings helpful and the music advanced enough to be challenging. The arrangements are great. What I love most about the book is that it has a lot of ballet music in it that you don't usually get with other best-loved classical collections.

My Favorite for the past 30 years!
This book is still in print??? I'm so excited because this, my first somewhat advanced classical music venture, is falling apart! I hope to buy one soon for my daughter, who I now teach. Still use this each time I practice. With all of the pictures and doodles and notes from 2 different teachers, it's a time capsule of my life! (: GREAT for your late intermediate student.
