Love books one and two
As I started piano lessons I learned from John Thompson Teach the little finger to play and progressed to Modern course grades 1 and 2. I have been using them in my teaching for 40+ years. Every student likes these books. However, I don't bother with grade 3(and above) because when a student are capable to play grade 2, I would introduce the music composers' original pieces rather than arrangements.

John Thompson's Modern Course-piano - second grade
My piano teacher uses this book and I like it so much I purchased my own copy. I'm 72 and took up piano a few years ago. I'll never be a great player, but I like that the pieces are challenging with different techniques and styles, yet not so difficult that they are not frustrating to learn and are fun for me. The extra bonus is that the newer edition is on white paper which is much easier for me to read.

John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano 2
I love the Thompson books! The progress fast but building on past skills, keeping the students interested and learning new things with almost every lesson. I love the pace... not too fast or too slow. I like my students to be able to spend 2-3 weeks perfecting the songs. Thompson creates songs that show the student's skills in impressive sounding work with simple skills so the songs are great for recitals!

the best one I found
I have compared this with almost all the others modern courses, and I like this one the best. It's less easy than most and the pieces are of high quality, you won't find any weird or corny sounding music here, basically JT was a romantic pianist, so you'll find all the good stuff from Bach to Tchaikovski in this series

John Thompson's modern-piano-2nd grade
This is a thoughtful, and carefully crafted course designed to carry a music student into a level of musical proficiency.a very nice work, it's interesting and fun. I love it!

Spent a few years on this one, but it was worth it and I credit this book for helping me be a better player.

Still a good method
John Thompson and Leila Fletcher are my 2 preferred methods. Newer isn't necessarily better.

Good Refresher

i am currently using the john thompsons gr.2 book( yes i am a child) but the pieces are somewhat difficult and i do learn quite effictively and i progress well through the seris but i stopp the jt book at the end of the 2nd and move on to level 5/6/7 pieces in another book called piano pieces for children but they are difficult even though the book has a lv. o it they r higher lv pieces

Great book for beginners amd advanced players
I have been playing the piano for 10+ years and I consider myself to be at a high level and I still find myself reviewing over the techniques and the songs from every one of these books and now I'm using these books to teach my friends as well this is my favorite series because it does not baby the student but it makes it easy for the student to teach his/herself like I have ily:) lolz

Good book
I have been studing from this book with my piano teacher. From what i have been learning, it is a great book with lots of nice songs that are not too hard for second grade. Since now I am in eighth grade and currently teaching my sister I would recommend the John Thompson series to anybody eho wants to learn piano.
