Carl Czerny is considered by many to be the father of modern piano technique. He composed over 1,000 works, including hundreds of piano studies. Germer carefully selected and organized 3 volumes of Czerny studies in progressive difficulty from various volumes. Volume 1, Part 1 moves quickly from the early intermediate to intermediate level, while Volume 1, Part 2 moves from the late intermediate into the advanced levels. The gradual progression of difficulty found in these volumes offers the best approach to Czerny studies for piano studies of all ages. .

Excellent for developing a technical foundation
While most of Czerny's studies run into several pages, these exercises have been selected from the Eight Measure Studies and other short exercises and serve as a very useful introduction to skills needed for secure playing in general and for the classical era in particular. I insist on mastery of each study since each is quite short. After a few studies, the technique improves noticeably, and by the time students can play 25 to 30, the technique is sounding solid. These are much more interesting than pure scales and patterns.
