Virtuosic Solo Piano - Not a Standard Vocal Accompaniment
This Art Tatum collection offers incredible note-for-note piano solos, making it a masterclass in jazz piano texture. However, vocal coaches should note these are complete, virtuosic piano arrangements, not typical accompaniments designed to support a singer or double a melody. They are highly independent pieces. While they don't include lyrics, the arrangements are fantastic for studying jazz harmony and voice-leading within a piano context.

Authentic Transcriptions, Not for Quick Gigs
For serious solo jazz piano, this Art Tatum collection is invaluable. The note-for-note transcriptions are precise, and chord symbols are clearly present, which is a big plus. However, these are Tatum's full arrangements, not standard lead sheets, so they're not ideal for sight-reading at typical 'request' gigs. Excellent for dedicated study or solo performances, but be mindful of page turns during longer pieces.

A Challenging but Rewarding Journey into Jazz!
If you love Art Tatum and want to play his exact interpretations, this book is fantastic! As an adult learner, I found the Late Intermediate (SMP Level 7) difficulty quite challenging, but it's incredibly rewarding to work through these note-for-note transcriptions of his jazz standards. It really helps you sound like the master himself, making practice truly enjoyable and inspiring for my weekend playing.
