This Horace Silver instructional book is superb for intermediate to advanced jazz students. The detailed combo arrangements, combined with philosophical insights, make it an invaluable teaching tool for rhythm, harmony, and improvisation. The Hal Leonard engraving is clear, making the complex concepts and full scores accessible. A must-have for developing well-rounded jazz musicians.

Horace Silver's approach to combo playing is timeless. This book provides 7 classic arrangements with full score notation and chord names, which is crucial for quick reference on a gig. While more of a study guide than a quick 'lead sheet' book, the musical examples are robust and true to Silver's style, making them perfectly suitable for various jazz settings.

I was a big fan of Horace in the early sixties and learnt his tunes by ear. I still play them. This is a nicely produced book which should be read by all aspiring jazz musicians. It is a treasure and speaks the truth!
