Challenging but Rewarding for Advanced Students
This Grappelli collection is excellent for advanced violin students looking to explore jazz standards. The difficulty level is high, demanding precision in rhythm and position work. The online audio is invaluable for ear training and rhythmic accuracy. While the engraving is generally clear, some empty staves for guitar solos might need creative workarounds for students. A great resource for those ready for a challenge!

Sounding Like Grappelli is a Blast!
Absolutely love this Stephane Grappelli play-along! Learning these classic jazz standards like 'Minor Swing' and 'Stardust' has been so much fun. The online audio helps me get the feel and timing just right, making me sound closer to the record. It's definitely challenging for a weekend player, but so rewarding when you nail a phrase. Highly recommend for pure enjoyment!

Solid Jazz Standards with Play-Along
A good collection of Stephane Grappelli standards, essential for any jazz violinist. The arrangements are faithful and the backing tracks are a huge plus for practice or even small casual gigs where you need instant accompaniment. Chord symbols are present, which is crucial. My only minor gripes are a few awkward page turns and some sections with 'empty' guitar solo measures, but overall, it's very usable.

This is not Grapelli or django. I expected a CD, instead I have to download'/copy/bugger about with it. Not happy

Difficult; 1/3 requires CD; bad page turns
I got this hoping to find something playable, and enjoyable. I am pro-level but these are challenging (10th position or so, very complex rhythms). The 2 pages shown in Look Inside are not representative of the difficulty level, and 14 of 40 pages have line after line of hash marks indicating a guitar solo on CD (empty page for the violinist). I don't use the CD track at all so this is useless for me.There are 9 impossible page turns, too, meaning we have to photocopy them....the editors could have arranged more conveniently.I will continue to look for more music in this style, this selection has some real issues with being useable.

valuable book
very nice and recommendable book.Minor swing is in it. Violin player, Jerry Loughney is wonderful. even if you cannot play it, you can listen splendid Grappelli's music. and I also other Jerry Loughney's books such as bluegrass and bluegrass favorite
