Balakirev wrote his Oriental Fantasy Islamei in just one month September 1869. Overwhelming experiences of fine scenery and the magic of exotic music were powerful stimuli for the creation of the work. He travelled to Caucasus and was inspired by a tune he heard there, called Islamey (sic.). The resulting piece for solo piano is one of the most challenging and virtuosic works in the repertoire.

Excellent edition.
I used this edition to learn the Islamey, and I still use it as my reference. The layout is excellent, and the print quality is good. As an urtext, this is the bare music without editorial additions such as pedal markings, but it does contain fingerings, which are on the whole very good. It also contains a wrong note in bar 250 in the right hand -but it sounds so wrong while the correct note is very obvious, so I doublt anyone will be led astray by it.
