They are written with the hope that they will serve as departure points, "Jumping off spots" to get you started in this marvelously creative art. Good value - good place to start.
A little more than half of the 64 pages are filled with pieces to play. The pieces are used to help describe the characteristics of the blues and rock styles (and variations within them). There are a few pencil and paper exercises (theory). There are some suggestions for varying the way pieces could be played (Experiment). There are some opportunities to improvise rhythms and melodies. Much of the book is about blues and rock theory. It would be best if the user were familiar with intervals, major and minor scales, keys and chords (modes and progressions are described in greater detail in the book). The book includes a 'Chord Reference Chart'.The cover of the book is a bit flimsy. Some may like the book simply to play the pieces in it!
