In Vienna at the time, fascination with the “Turkish” style was widespread. Mozart incorporated this exotic flavor into the final movement of his Sonata K. 331, creating the Rondó Alla turca as a cheerful and cosmopolitan gesture. Its festive character quickly made it a favorite with Viennese audiences.
