Trilogy for brass band was originally only a two movement piece for brass choir titled March and Chorale. The idea of transcribing the piece for brass band came years later with the thought of submitting the composition to the American Brass Band Association as a contest piece. Turrin then added a third movement and titled the piece "Trilogy.".
