Piano Sonata No.1 was composed in the early 1960’s. My teacher, Tibor Serly, with whom I studeid for eight years, one day suggested it was time for me to write a sonata. The suggestion was a little intimidating at the time, but somehow I forged ahead until finally it was completed. Fortunately, Tibor's wife, first class pianist Miriam Molin, recorded the piece and can be found at the Naxos Music Library. -Edward Thomas
Key of d minor, classic sonata-allegro form, one movement. This is a great piece for study and performance due to the almost constant sixteenth note figurations in the right hand.
