These 24 short pieces are designed for offertories and interludes. I have included in this 3rd Edition a new "Communion Medley". I use all my books at church, funerals and in piano lessons. Plenty of room has been left for the more advanced player to add their own improvisation. Great hymn arrangements
I have all three book editions by Phil Hamm and love and use every book in my pre-service music playing, at my Lutheran church. I just love his arrangements!! Highly recommend!

Jazzy Hymn Arrangements Book One-3rd Edition
This book is really useful for a church pianist. The Jazzy arrangement is beautiful! It's not too hard to learn. I love the reharmonization of this hymn book.

Jazzy Hymn Arrangement Book One
As a church organist, I find these hymn compilation great and interesting, very appropriate for interludes and offertoires. Alas a new Hymnal for me!

Jazzy Hymn Arrangements Book One
I'm not a jazz musician, but I found these arrangements very doable. The jazz aspect is in harmony more than rhythm. Some of the hymns seem not really suited to a jazz adaptation, but it was interesting to play.

Over-rated
I purchased these Jazzy Arrangements because of the many glowing reviews, which ultimately led to disappointment. Though some of the songs or portions of songs are interesting, some are not much different than playing directly out of a hymnal. I didnt find them all that jazzy either, just a few non-standard chords in place of the traditional chords with a few even sounding wrong (like they were added just to be different). I also found some of the notes and measures crowded and hard to read.

Very nice Arrangements
IMHO the title is misleading. Most are not jazzy but rather contemporary voicing. Well worth the price - nice arrangements!

Jazzy Hymn Arrangements Book One
I LOVE these arrangements. I keep the book on the piano rack at all times. When I pass the piano or have some extra time, I sit down and play through the entire book. I love the lush, full sounds and the reharmonization of the favorite hymns. These arrangements are truly food for the soul. They take the old familiar hymns and add new variety and interest. I highly recommend them!!!!

Great Arrangements
These are definitely Arrangements with a little Jazz. Phil Hamm is a genuine Christian composer/songwriter who is always available to assist and give advice. I am so happy to have made the purchase. My daughter, wife and I look forward to playing these songs together. We highly recommend these arrangements that Phil has put together.

Essential!
This is my new go to hymn solo book. The arrangements are smooth and sophisticated, fun to play, GREAT sounding, and no problem to master. A touch of jazz ... very acceptable for the church setting. I couldn't be happier to have this music and would highly recommend it as essential for your collection. Phil Hamm is very accessible and generous with his time and product.

These are great arrangements!
I downloaded this book and have played several of the hymns. They are enjoyable to play and bring new fun to some old hymns. They sound great. Phil Hamm did a great job putting these pieces together. I hook forward to seeing more of his work and would recommend his book to others.

Jazzy Hymn Arrangements
These beautiful, ready to use arrangements will be a blessing to many! They are pleasant to listen to and do not require a lot of preparation for the experienced pianist. I like how Phil Hamm has taken familiar, favorite hymns and arranged them in a fresh, new way. I intend to use these with my intermediate piano students for their enjoyment and to broaden their repertoire. Thanks, Phil, for including so many hymns at such a reasonable price!

Title describes a more upbeat, modern arrangement.
I am so happy to find the Jazzy Hymn Arrangements by Phil Hamm. As a pianist at a small country church, with an intermediate skill level, I find it difficult to find music that doesn't take a long period of time to master and find myself limited to playing mostly from a hymnal. The arrangements in this collection are written with such feeling. I feel they will allow me to add much more to our worship service on my skill level.
