Gospel Classics arrangements by Mark Hayes
Bought this for As the Deer classic, but better to play it out of Faith We Sing accompaniment book as the simpler version is much preferred to the addition of four-five flats and other frills.

A must have!
This collection of hymns this book offers is exceptional! While I don't play each of these pieces often, Sweet By and By is always a go to when you wish to play up your music in any church service. The Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art are two of the best pieces, and difficult, I've ever played. This book is a definite must have in any advanced pianist's collection!

Be Aware of Preview Music
Be aware that the preview of Sweet By and By is one of the simplest arrangements in this book. I ordered this for a student, but have found it to be much too difficult. Mark Hayes, as always, provides wonderful arrangements. Just be prepared for Early Advanced music with this book.

Worth Every Penny
One can never go wrong with Mark Hayes. This title is great for church or home playing. Every title is very well arranged and is beautifully put together. Purchase and you will not be disappointed.

MORE INFO
before I buy I like to see what songs are in the book and they're not listed here. Otherwise, I would buy it but I have many books and don't want to duplicate what I already have and like.

Nice arrangements
I really like Marks work. This book is challenging for me. I play at an Intermediate Level 2 so there are songs in this book I am unable to play in public, but it certainly would be a book that more advanced pianists would enjoy.

Beautiful arrangements
Mark Haynes is a great arranger. His pieces have beautiful chords and runs. This book is for the advanced player. I'm a fairly accomplished amateur player (practice 30-60 minutes most days), and can learn these after a couple of weeks' practices. These take some time to learn, but the result is worth it.

Best Arrangements Out There For Advancing Pianists
Mark Hayes has created a beautiful collection, with influences from pop, jazz, and ragtime. Most of the pieces are old Gospel Classics such as I'll Fly Away, In The Garden, Old Rugged Cross, etc. How Great Thou Art is the most difficult, but still easily mastered for the advanced pianist. Hayes has arranged these songs to the moods and emotions of the text creating a powerful connection when executed well--my favorite book for offertories.

Mark Hayes never misses!
Gospel songs beautifully and imaginatively arranged, as you'd expect from Mark Hayes! I love the unexpected touches that make his arrangements such a joy to play and hear. Listening to the CD really helps me learn the pieces. Not for a casual pianist, but can be learned by a competent player with a bit of practice. As noted by another reviewer, some of the songs would be appropriate for funerals. It can be hard to find imaginative, creatively done music for this use. Love these!
