Folk Songs from the British Isles
As an old brass player from the UK, I introduced this piece to a small local Concert Band, mostly retired but with a good number of 'young players'. It was an instant hit with the Band. They enjoyed the lively ,lilting tempi,and most recognised the tunes if not personally,as something heard at home. The challenges initially were in tempo changes, the range played was consistently met, and I believe caused some players to practice more and ask for help. We have since started playing Vaughn Williams'sEnglish Folk Song Suite with more verve and snjoyment. I would recommend 'Folk Songs' to any Concert Band,as well written with interstingparts, and Solo sections, My only complaint is that it finishes too early!
