The Elgar Cello Concerto and the Brahms Cello Sonata in F Major is transcribed by bassist Yung-chiao Wei to be played on the bass. Currently Professor of Bass at LSU, Wei is the first female bassist to have performed a solo recital in the Carnegie Hall. Her Carnegie Hall debut garnered tremendous praise from New York Concert Review Inc. Critic Anthony Aibel, who cited "Wei is a phenomenon…nuance on the double bass is hard to accomplish, but Wei plays with subtlety of dynamics, color and expression one seldom, if ever, hears on the bass".
This transcription is for advanced bassists and the fingerings indicated should work well for all bass players as Wei herself has possibly the smallest hands of any professional bassist.
