Majestic & Fun to Play!
I absolutely loved playing "Across the Northern Sky" with my community band! Michael Sweeney perfectly captures a sense of grandeur and celebration. As a Grade 3 piece, it's challenging but very rewarding for adult learners. Contributing to those rich harmonies and the vibrant fanfare made our band sound impressive and was a truly enjoyable, relaxing experience.

Excellent Repertoire for Developing Bands
Michael Sweeney's "Across the Northern Sky" is a superb Grade 3 piece. The Hal Leonard engraving is crystal clear, vital for student readability. It's excellent for teaching dynamic control, rhythmic accuracy, and ensemble listening. The brief flute solo provides a great spotlight, making this an encouraging and enriching selection for intermediate school concert bands.

Thoughtful Instrumental "Voice-Leading
While this is a concert band piece without a vocal line or piano accompaniment, I appreciate Michael Sweeney's command of instrumental "voice-leading." The rich harmonies and dynamic textures, from antiphonal brass to lyrical flute, demonstrate excellent support among sections. It's a Grade 3 work that allows for impactful ensemble coaching on blend and balance.
