This iconic Queen song, You're My Best Friend was written by the band's bass player, John Deacon, who wrote it for and about his wife. It was first included on the 1975 album A Night at the Opera, and later released as a single.
This brand new arrangement, from the pen of Matt Shaw and Nova Vocem Music, was originally put together for a brass band themed wedding in 2024. Skillfully scored with the potential to be used by either full band or reduced numbers, this arrangement has solo features for flugelhorn and solo trombone, with the flugel taking the lead for the opening melody, and the trombone features covering not only vocal lines but also the iconic guitar solo originally played by Brian May.
This classy and clever arrangement features all areas of the band, and transforms the feeling of the original Queen version smoothly into the brass band medium. It has been used for 2 separate weddings in 2024 and 2025, and is equally suited to concert or competition use.
