This facsimile of an original by Joseph Chabanceau de la Barre is part of our French classical music collection. Editions : Paris, R. Ballard, 1669. These airs are notated in the treble clef or soprano clef for the upper part. The texts, however, are more suitable for made than female voices. Although the treble clef and soprano clef more usually correspond to the soprano voice (dessus), these airs can be sung by a tenor or haute contre francaise voice, in line with 17th-century pratice.
