The last volume 5 of this richly illustrated series deals with the history of the modern trumpet from its creation in Paris by Florentine Besson - yes, the modern trumpet was first patented by a woman - to the heavy trumpet models by David Monette at the end of the 20th century. Over 700 photographs and many patent drawings trace the development of the modern trumpet in its many sizes and variations. Like the entire series, this final book is based substantially on the Utley Collection at the National Music Museum of the University of South Dakota.
