The 1848 American Shaker tune "Simple Gifts" is popular around the world. In hymn form, it is often sung to the text "Tis a Gift to Be Simple". A variation of the original tune is known as "Lord of the Dance", and it's popularity grew when composer Aaron Copland used it in his orchestral work, "Appalachian Spring". Here is it set as a festive trumpet tune, with the melody clearly stated throughout using a trumpet stop. It could work as a joyful prelude, lively special music, as a festive postlude, or as part of a Thanksgiving celebration. I hope you enjoy playing it!
