Trampoline Trot is one in a series of pattern based piano titles written by Terri Howren (with Claire Cavoto) for her piano students to help them build their reading and playing skills. These pieces focus on patterns and shapes that appear over and over. Level 1 of Trampoline Trot is an amazingly easy piece for your beginning readers to play. Also, because of the repetition, the student quickly gets familiar with not only the notes, but the rhythm pattern. As the levels get increasingly difficult, the challenge decreases since they have already learned the skeletal foundation of the piece. Level One is the easiest at the elementary level and Level Four is the final composition at a late elementary to Early Intermediate level (recording is Level 4). Each level has the same skeletal structure with some modification to help the student build their skill in reading and playing. Ms. Howren found her students taking a new level every one to two weeks and these were beginning level readers! Each level includes a workbook sheet that focuses on the patterns that are introduced in each song so the student can concentrate on additional skills prior to learning the song.
