This bright samba was written by Brazilian composer Zequinha de Abreu in 1917. It was played by organist Ethel Smith in M-G-M's Bathing Beauty (1943), and the "Brazilian Bombshell," Carmen Miranda, sang it to Groucho Marx in United Artists Copacabana in 1947. It's even been performed by Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Philharmonic!
A great pop standard, and a really fun encore for any program!
