The piece Thème original varié op. 22 is a composition created during the period of Dobrzyński's incredible creative activity, when he tried his hand at various musical genres. The virtuosic character of Thème original varié was probably related to the recipient of the dedication - Edward Stolp (1812–1874). He was a friend of Dobrzyński and Chopin, an excellent pianist. The work consists of four extended, contrasting in character parts: a pathetic introduction, a cheerful theme originating from the composer's invention with four variations, a nocturne larghetto and a daring finale. In this work, Dobrzyński skillfully combined classical patterns that were close to him with tendencies typical of the new era, especially the brillant style with its tendency towards virtuosity and cantilena. The composer's fascination with orchestral music is noticeable in the clear symphonization of the work. Dobrzyński's composition, fraught with many difficulties, undoubtedly requires considerable technical skill.
