Ostenaco was a celebrated Cherokee chief in the 18th century, and became a leading advocate for peace with the British colonies. Paying homage to this great man, Spirit of Ostenaco opens with a melancholy solo flute followed by a chorale statement of rich textures and harmonies. The pace quickens with the theme stated by low voices, thundering percussion, and finally a triumphant and powerful closing section. Dur: ca. 4:30.

Inspiring and Rewarding to Play!
I absolutely loved playing 'Spirit of Ostenaco' with my community band. The tribute to Chief Ostenaco provides a meaningful narrative, and the music really captures that journey. The Grade 4 level felt challenging but totally achievable for an adult learner, and the powerful closing section was incredibly satisfying to be a part of. A truly enjoyable and inspiring piece!
