Good selection
This is a very good edition with excellent selections from the over 60 sonatas Clementi wrote. The three Opus 40 sonatas are all great, as are the Opus 33. Opus 33/3 is actually his only Concerto arranged by the composer as a sonata. The first two movements contain cadenzas, but only the first movement cadenza was written out. You need to write your own for the second movement. This volume is a better value than getting the two separate volumes that Schirmer also publishes, Be aware that the second volume (Book II) of that set is all included in this one. However, some sonatas in Volume 1 were not included in this one. The fingering is quite good. I only object to the overly romantic editing, which includes too many dynamic markings which clearly are not the composer's. There is also some excessive phrase markings. Unfortunately, the only scholarly edition of these sonatas is the very expensive Italian Urtext edition. We don't have many choices to compare.
