Return Of The Giant Hogweed by Genesis Bass Guitar Tablature - Digital Sheet Music

By Phil Collins

This is a transcription of the electric bass line played by Mike Rutherford in the song "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed," released on the album "Nursery Cryme," recorded in August 1971 and released in November of the same year by the English band Genesis. The file contains the bass transcribed in sheet music and tablature notation, with my suggested fingering on the electric bass neck. There are sections in the song where the bass is difficult to hear, such as in the final section. In this section, I looked for references in live versions, where it is also not possible to hear the bass clearly. I chose to transcribe a groove that made more sense to me for that part of the song, respecting its harmony. In another section, where "part A" repeats for the third time before the interlude where the solo occurs, it is not clear whether there is an overdub of two overlapping basses or if it is a fuzz electric guitar. I chose to transcribe what would be the rhythm bass, different from the versions recorded live by Genesis at the time.I hope this transcript can help you play this wonderful piece from one of the most iconic progressive rock bands.
