Composed by Johann Ludwig Krebs. Edited by Felix Friedrich. Stuttgart Urtext edition. Score. Krebs-WV 823. 24 pages. Duration 25 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 18.520/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1852000).
ISBN 9790007140687. 8.27 x 11.69 inches. Key: B flat major. Language: all languages.
Together with the Partita in E flat major the Partita in B flat major is without a doubt one of the most important compositions of Johann Ludwig Krebs, who was a pupil of Bach. Both works are from a six-part cycle, of which only these two Partitas and the Partita in A minor have survived. Although in these works Krebs has oriented himself very closely on the model of his mentor Bach, nevertheless they show strong individual moments of creativity, wholly indebted to the sensitive ("empfindsam") style. The Partita in B has been handed down in two versions which differ essentially only through the number of movements contained in each version: the autograph has ten movements, whereas the copy has only seven. This first critical edition of the work follows the autograph.
