This appealing and stately British style march has been a staple in the repertoire for young bands since it was first published in 1982. Written using a tempo which is slower than typical American marches, it opens with a feature for percussion and flutes. Gradually other sections join the mix until reaching the magnificent strains for full band. From there, the instrumentation thins out leading to a reprise of the flute and percussion statement. Excellent Repertoire for Developing Bands
This John Edmondson march is a fantastic Grade 3 piece for school bands. The clear engraving by Hal Leonard makes parts easy to read. The gradual layering of instruments, starting with percussion and flutes, is excellent for teaching balance and blend. Its stately British style helps students develop nuanced phrasing and rhythmic precision. A truly valuable addition to any band's program.

A Rewarding March to Play!
I absolutely love playing 'Normandy Beach' with my community band! John Edmondson created such an appealing and stately piece. As a Grade 3, it's challenging enough to keep me engaged but still very achievable. The build-up from flutes and percussion to the full, magnificent sound is incredibly satisfying. It's a real joy to perform and sounds wonderful.

Oboe
I am an oboe fresh out of marching season and only about halfway through concert season. Well, we've been doing concert music three months, now? And, now we're going to have to do a concert contest in a month or two. Normandy Beach is a fairly easy song, I struggle in some parts, but quickly and strategically recover.The key signature also changes many times, luckily the time signature doesn't.
