This is my adaptation and arrangement of three of the wonderful songs in the 1971 movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, including “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” “Oompa-Loompa-Doompadee-Doo” and “Pure Imagination,” written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. The picture was an Academy Award Nominee for Best Music, Scoring Adaptation and Original Song Score, naming Mr. Newly and Bricusse as well as the Music Arranger and Conductor, Walter Scharf. I must also acknowledge the work of two (uncredited) orchestrators, Gus Levene and Arthur Morton. Giants all!
Rather than re-inventing the wheel, I endeavored to follow their ideas and instincts in setting this music for Concert Band/Wind Ensemble, although inevitably, there does seem to be a bit of me in there as well. As always with my publications, I encourage you to consult the original recordings. They are always worth a revisit and will give you a blueprint for the tempos, and the all-important rubato sections that give this classic music its emotional impact.
The score should be printed on 11”x17” Tabloid sized paper and the parts on 8.5”x11” Letter sized paper.
