Reflective of the rest of the series, Lydia’s Dance is a three-part piece for cello trio to cello choir. The cello 3 part can be used to introduce col legno, uses dotted rhythms, and only three pitches (no second fingers, no extensions), on the C and G strings. The cello 2 part uses both second and third fingers. It can be played entirely in first position, but can also be used for shifting up and down the D string into fourth position to learn to “cover” the A string. The cello 1 part goes into tenor clef and thumb position.
