When writing When the Birds Return I had no title in mind, however, the third section, when the tremolo returns, reminded me of that feeling when seeing the flock of birds in the distant sky returning from their migration. The guitar has always been at the heart of South American music - this is exemplified in the music of the Paraguayan guitar composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré, which I have played so often - and so this Homage to Barrios is my tribute to him.

Lorsque j'ai écrit When the Birds Return (Quand les oiseaux reviennent), je n'avais aucun titre en tête. Cependant, la troisième section, lorsque le trémolo fait son retour, m'a rappelé cette sensation en voyant la volée d'oiseaux au loin dans le ciel revenir de sa migration. La guitare a toujours été au cœur de la musique sud-américaine, comme en témoigne la musique du compositeur paraguayen Agustín Barrios Mangoré, que j'ai si souvent jouée. C'est pourquoi cet Hommage à Barrios est la commémoration de son œuvre.
