The Godfather is a classic gangster film, made in 1972. Nino Rota’s score is equally memorable and its Love Theme has been immortalised in both instrumental and vocal versions. Rota had used the melody as early as 1958; it is also much-loved in its song version ‘Speak Softly, Love’.

The beautiful minor-key harmonisation features many idioms of romantic-period style.
The dialogue between the voices makes it particularly suitable for ensembles of an
intermediate level.
