Pedagogical in nature, these editions offer insightful interpretive suggestions, permanent fingering, and historical and stylistic commentary. Prepared by renowned artists/teachers, these publications provide an accurate, well-informed score resource for pianists. J.S. Bach (1685-1750) composed the Two-Part Inventions for his son Wilhelm Friedemann. While giving the player a superb example of musical construction, they also teach the basics of articulation, rhythm, phrasing, fingering, ornamentation, and the development of a singing tone. Bach two part inventions
I have used both the old yellow edition and this one. I find the fingering in this one inferior to the old edition, but I feel I have a better understanding of Bach's ornamentation with this edition. It has helped me a lot

fingering
I would not use this edition because of the fingering. It is impractical and cumbersome and not because of trying to be historically more in tune with the performance practice of the time.

problem ornaments
My student had difficulty with the ornaments in Invention No. 1. The trills are shown as double trills and are in footnotes or above the staff notes. I switched my student to the traditional yellow cover Schirmer . My student did much better with the traditional yellow cover Schirmer book. The traditional book uses single trills and incorporates them into the staff. Also, I like the darker, larger print of the traditional yellow cover book.
