I created a series of character pieces called "The Grumpy Bear." How this came about is one of my students reacted to seeing a small black bear from a Christmas decoration one of the studios I teach at had in the piano room I was teaching in. She kept playing with the bear saying it was grumpy. That's how the "Grumpy Bear" series was born. This piece "Grumpy Bear Gets Mad at a Squirrel" captures the essence of the grumpy bear's annoyance at a squirrel bouncing around his cave and his reaction to it. This piece is perfect for young students. It does have some challenging elements like the trill, but it is short enough for the student's attention span. It can also make a great recital piece!
