As a piano teacher, I have had a number of talented students who have been very frustrated by the small reach of their hands. So I’ve always kept an eye out for interesting, expressive pieces without octaves or big chords.
It was a delight to discover wonderful pieces by little-known composers such as Koechlin, Wilson, Bantock, Weil, and Drozdov, but I have also included lesser-known works by Bartòk, Schumann and Chaminade, as well as contemporary pieces by myself and by my friend and colleague Alison Mathews.
