“Good King Wenceslas” is an interesting combination of a 13th century traditional festive spring song, yet celebrating December 26th (or 31st depending on your choice of calendar) the ‘Feast of Stephen’; to oddly tell the tale of a 10th century king Saint Wenceslas I, who goes on a journey in harsh winter weather to give alms to the poor; by means of the creative text of two Victorian men, a hymnwriter collaborating with his music editor, who produce a very popular (against all odds, and critically debunked by the ‘academic community’) Christmas Carol! And yet it teaches the most basic message of Christmas: “Ye who now will bless the poor, Shall yourselves find blessing”. This 21st century interpretation is scored for 4-part SATB (with occasional divisi) ensemble and piano accompaniment. Performance time: 3:15+- A fun Christmas Carol!
