The third volume of the Godowsky Collection is primarily devoted to one of Godowsky’s most remarkable and controversial projects, the virtuosic studies he based on the Études from Fréderic Chopin’s Opp. 10 and 25. Praised and reviled in equal measure when they were first performed and published (1894–1914), these “studies” are both elaborate and respectful commentaries on Chopin’s genius by a great admirer and tests of the outer limits of piano technique. The volume is rounded out with the 1899 concert rrangement of Chopin’s Rondo, Op. 16 and six waltzes drawn from Op. 18, Op. 64 and Op. 70. As with the previous volumes, the fascinating and extensive notes and a biography are by noted Godowsky scholar, Dr. Millan Sachania.

after recently listeneing to all 53 studies i wanted to have a look for myself. this is the second volume of godowsky's works i have purchased in this series so am familiar with them. the binding is excellent and strong, the printing very well done, easy to read (if not to play). my quibble is that i had difficulty locating this volume on the website. the search only turned up one item by godowsky and it was only by scrolling around a bit that i located this. otherwise very happy with the experience.

This edition is wonderful - it features technical exercises which Godowsky developed to go along with several of the studies, all of which can be quite helpful. It's very legible, page turns are as convenient as possible, good notes. These are not meant to replace Chopin's Etudes at all, but rather to supplement. They greatly expand the technical demands in virtually every conceivable way. Do bear in mind: These are not show pieces. If your goal is to learn an extremely difficult piece to show off for friends, you have better choices available; however, if you want to greatly expand your technical ability at the piano, and believe me that it will be a long, arduous journey, then this is a brilliant choice to make. If you're ready to work on them and ready to make a large commitment to your playing I would very highly recommend this. It's a wonderful investment for your library and your pianism.
