Composed by Kerry Mills. Arranged by Derrick Thomas Lewis. This edition: pdf. Folk, Instructional, Ragtime, Standards. Score and parts. 46 pages. Meri Dolevski #5715359. Published by Meri Dolevski (A0.975883).
The first great hit of the Ragtime era, this Cakewalk was composed in 1897, two years before the term 'Ragtime' was coined. Before the piano became the standard instrument of Rag, the vocal song was the medium best known.
The composer, Frederick 'Kerry' Mills, was a professor of violin at Michigan University, and in 1899, started the long running publishing house, F.A.Mills Music, not to be confused with Mills Music.
This band arrangement gives generous exposure to the trombone and horn, beyond the usual oom-pah parts generally met with, and provides a guitar part in A, which utilizes the capo to put the instrument into B flat. A banjo would do very well as an addition or replacement.
This is fun music, for sure. A real 'barn burner'!
