This composition’s title – written for the 75th anniversary of music society Excelsior from Ouwsterhaule (the Netherlands) – is derived from a sculpture by the artist Gerlof Hamersma, which places this Frisian village in the Center of the Universe. With three movements featuring powerful themes, pastoral passages and an energetic finale, Jan de Haan has once again succeeded in creating an attractive work that will ensure lots of playing fun for many bands worldwide.
