Composed by Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach (1714 - 88). Arranged by Edited by Pat Spence. This edition: pdf. Classical, Multicultural, Standards, World. 18 pages. Piper Publications #3434279. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811664).
Composed for flute and violin or 2 flutes in 1748 and first published in 1770, this Duettino has three movements, Andante, Allegro and Allegretto, composed in the classical style. It would have been written for Bach's employer, Peter the Great of Prussia to perform with Johann Joachim Quantz, his flute teacher or with C.P.E. Bach. Peter was an accomplished amateur player and performed the many sonatas and concertos written for him by both Bach and Quantz with enthusiasm. The work has been edited by Pat Spence. Obvious copying mistakes have been corrected without comment. Dashed slurs have been added to match the phrasing in similar passages in the same or other part. The sparse dynamic markings have been supplemented in parenthesis where they appear in one part and are clearly intended to apply to both parts. A small number are (hopefully) helpful suggestions where a change of dynamic would appear to be appropriate. Performers own experience and taste will always determine each performance. The Duettino could also be played on pairs of oboes, violins or clarinets.
