A classic of the school band repertoire, Blasenfest by Tommy Fry was written for the Snyder, Texas High School Band and dedicated to them, and their conductor of the time, Melvin Montgomery. Built from a simple motive emphasizing perfect fourths (F, C, Bb, and Eb), that is manipulated with great skill, Blasenfest touches on a variety of moods and styles in a moderately contemporary vein, with chorales, fanfares and a lively, rhythmically invigorating allegro designed to give a Grade 3 band an excellent chance to show their proficiency. The brass and percussion writing is especially brilliant and effective. Out of print for several years, Blasenfest has been re-engraved and is published here in a corrected edition with a full score, for the first time, as part of Carl Fischer Classic Band Edition.
