The Piano Sonata op. 101 marks the transition to Beethoven's late works. The composer's increasing deafness was already manifesting itself in such a marked way that he no longer dared to appear publicly as a pianist. In this sonata he experimented with unusual harmonies, broke with form, gave detailed German headings for the movements, and for the first time also used a note so unheard of that it was not even on most of the contemporary pianos: the low counter E. The editors have undertaken a thorough revision of our edition and our catalogue now offers a single edition of this sonata.

Perfect editions
I have been a fan on Henle since my early studies and one can't just go wrong with their editions (may except for the amazing Chopin National Edition). I have ordered all Beethoven's late piano sonatas and he printing is clear, easy to read and the commentaries about the opus and tips about the pieces do help a lot. However, thumbs down to Sheet Music Plus customer service: that box for requests when placing an order is simply useless, they don't even bother to read it. I have asked many times for the books to be declared as books, which is what they really are. Nonetheless, SMP insists on declaring it as educational music - whatever it means - generating taxes for foreigners costumers. So be aware that you cannot count of their customer service.
