Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1810272).Remo Giazotto (1910–1998) was an Italian musicologist, music critic, and composer, mostly known through his systematic catalogue of the works of Tomaso Albinoni. He wrote biographies of Albinoni and other composers, including Antonio Vivaldi. Giazotto is famous for his publication of this work, 'Adagio in G minor', which he claimed to have elaborated from a fragment of an Albinoni trio sonata that he had received from the Saxon State Library. According to Giazotto, it contained the bass line in print and six bars from the first violin part in manuscript; however, the fragment has never appeared in public, and the work was copyrighted by Giazotto. The piece is most commonly orchestrated for string ensemble and organ, but with its growing fame has been transcribed for other instruments, including this fresh arrangement for concert band. The 'Adagio' has been used in many films, television programmes, advertisements, recordings and audio books and would make a beautiful addition to a concert of film music or a quiet, contrasting moment in any concert, particularly one in a resonant acoustic.
