Hollywood, 1941. Le jazz est omniprésent. Glenn Miller (1904-1944) et son célèbre Big Band donnent leurs premiers grands concerts au Carnegie Hall de New York. En 1942, il se met au service des forces armées américaines et fonde le mythique Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band avec lequel il fait une tournée européenne. Deux ans plus tard, Glenn Miller disparaît mystérieusement en Manche. Il reste pour le public une véritable légende et ses airs les plus célèbres sont dans toutes les mémoires : In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade et, bien entendu, A Strings of Pearls.
