Composed by Traditional 17th century French folk song. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. This edition: pdf. Baroque, Chamber, Historic, Traditional. 9 pages. Scott S. Stewart #1222422. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1656045).

““A Crappy President” (He’s Not a Jolly Good Fellow): The tune "Malbrough s'en va-t-en guerre" (Marlborough is going off to war), also known as "Mort et convoi de l'invincible Malbrough" (The death and burial of the invincible Marlborough), is based on a French folk song from the 17th century. The song tells (a false rumor) of John Churchill’s, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, death and how his wife, awaiting his return from battle, is given the news of his ‘death’. It, and its 17-21 verses, grew in popularity throughout Europe in the 18th century, finally landing in America in the 19th century and evolving into “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”, and the campfire favorite “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”. Following in the tradition of the French ‘burlesque lament’ “A Crappy President” pays homage to the “actions and reactions of the current political scene”. It is scored for a trio of singers (sop, ten, bar) and piano accompaniment. Performance time: 2:05+-.
